Now that Netlify and Portway are set up to communicate, let’s take a quick tour of Portway’s editor then create and publish a “Hello, world” post for your new blog.
Writing, with style
Portway’s editor packs a lot of nice features, like headings, text formatting options, lists, and more. (If you’re familiar with Markdown documents, you’ll feel right at home!)
To peruse your options, click or tap the Aa button at the lower left corner of your editor window:
Fields
Portway also features support for inserting and managing various data types:
- Text
- Images
- Strings
- Numbers
- Dates
- Files

Images
Unlike other Portway field types, images are inserted directly into your posts. A few things to know:
- The first image in a post will be used as the thumbnail on your home page, as well as the preview image in link unfurls on sites like Twitter and Pinterest
- Be sure to set descriptive names for your images after inserting them — they’re used to provide alt text to visitors who rely on screen readers
If you don’t include an image in your post, a placeholder will be used as the home page thumbnail instead
“Hello, world”
That should cover the basics! To start a new blog post, let’s create a new Portway document:
- Click or tap the + button at the top of the Documents sidebar
- Enter the title for your post — Hello, world
- Click or tap the green + button (or press the Enter key)
- Enter the text you’d like to share with the world in your very first post. (No pressure! 😉)
Tip! — If you’re looking for images you can use freely, check out NASA, Wikimedia Commons, or Unsplash
When you’re ready, click or tap the big green Publish to API button in the lower right corner of the Portway editor, then click or tap Yes, publish this document to confirm.
That’s it! Wait a minute or two for Netlify’s build robots to do their thing, then refresh your site’s home page — you should see your new post waiting for you:
